Checked on October 11, 2026. October 15 is the announced launch date.
Epic has announced that UEFN Source assets will become available to buyers on Fab on October 15. Publisher uploads are already open. For creators of reusable game content, this is an opportunity to think about delivering editable systems alongside visual assets.
What is UEFN Source?
Epic describes the format as editable content that developers can build on inside Unreal Editor for Fortnite. Examples include prefabs and systems made with Scene Graph or Verse, such as NPC behaviour, vehicles and interfaces.
The announcement was published on September 21. As of our check, the upload documentation still says buyer downloads are not yet available. Treat October 15 as the announced availability date and recheck the status before planning a purchase or launch. Read Epic's announcement.
Prepare the project the buyer will receive
Epic's documentation describes a complete UEFN project delivered as a ZIP archive. Start with a project validated in the current live UEFN release; an existing Unreal Engine package needs its own UEFN checks.
- Validate the content. Compile Verse, resolve errors and consequential warnings, and check Fortnite's technical limits.
- Organise the package. Include the project, plugin and required content. Remove unused folders, local build files and Python scripts from the delivery copy.
- Test the actual archive. Import it into a clean project and check references and the demo level. A successful upload does not establish that the buyer's project will work.
- Describe dependencies. Make included content and third-party requirements clear in the listing.
Use Epic's current preparation guide for the full requirements.
Our production takeaway
For a modular environment, we would start by choosing one useful interaction: a gate, a repeatable encounter area or a configurable outpost. A small, well-explained example could make an editable package easier to understand and adapt. That is our suggested production approach, rather than a feature promised by this announcement.
We have not validated Animpic packs for UEFN. This article introduces a format to evaluate; product compatibility should be confirmed on each individual listing.
